The role
What this sub-unit is for
2 PARA is where most of the brigade serves and where most applicants are posted. C Company fields 7 Platoon — three rifle sections and a platoon headquarters — with a company aid post and a mortar section in support. It is a full infantry platoon, run as one, not a collection of players who happen to spawn together.
The battalion's job is to take and hold ground after an air assault insertion. That means Chinook or fast-rope insertion onto or near the objective, a deliberate advance to contact, an assault, then consolidation and defence of what you have just taken while the aviation element repositions.
You will be in a section of six to eight for months at a time. That continuity is the point: after a few operations your section commander knows who is quick on a flank and who is steady on a gun, and the drills stop needing to be talked through.

What you actually do
Insertion
Chalked onto a Chinook by section, or fast-roped in if the landing site is denied. You will know your chalk, your seat and your order off the ramp before you board.
Advance and assault
Fire and manoeuvre by fireteam under your section commander, with the gun group giving you the fire support to move. Compound entry is deliberate and rehearsed, not a race through the door.
Consolidation
Positions dug in or occupied, arcs assigned, casualties treated and extracted through the company aid post. This is where operations are actually lost, so we train it as hard as the assault.
Extraction
Back onto the airframe under whatever cover the Apache is providing, or a ground move to a rendezvous with 1 R IRISH's vehicles.
